  • education: access | About Us

We are education: access, a testament to the fact that a small group of individuals can have an outsized impact. About Us We're a group product leads, consultants, operations managers, and students united around two big ideas. One, that we can and should make an impact. Two, that decision-making must be driven locally. It's the reason we do this on a voluntary basis on top of our full-time jobs. Read Our Impact Report Alessandro, Founder “Whenever anyone asks me the thing I am most proud of in my life, I tell them about education: access. Every time I visit India, I see the impact we can have and I am reminded why we started this in the first place." Why we're different When we started this project, we knew we wanted to do things differently. Transparency is not just a buzzword to us. Local leadership is not just a theoretical model. Putting our scholars' interest above everything else isn't just something that we talk about. These are the core principles that we live by. 100% model We want to maximize the impact of every dollar you donate. That's why our team in the U.S. and EU are volunteers and help cover our operational costs. This means 100% of your donation goes to our projects. Local decision-making Many nonprofits talk about grassroots , but few make it the core of their model. All of our operations are run by a team of changemakers in India. They understand local contexts and issues, and drive decision-making. Trust-based giving Our scholarships are based on a simple but radical ideal: trust. We relentlessly verify the facts on the ground, but we also believe in the right balance between controls and flexbility based on trust. Core operations team We believe decision-making should be made from the ground up, not the other way around. Our Operations Team is the core of our organization. They are role models, mentors, and so much more. Upon return, he convinced some friends that they should do something to help the people in this remote and neglected area. education: access was born. Over the years, the concept has evolved . We have focused on scholarships, learned the importance of local leadership, and become more effective. But we've never forgottten our humble beginnings and the lesson we learned from them: chance can be a powerful catalyst for impact if you're willing to take a leap of faith. Support Team An all-volunteer team from diverse backgrounds powering the strategy and fundraising of education: access since Day 1. We're united by the desire to always do what's right. • education: access | Our Work

Our scholarship program supports girls between 9th and 12th grade. Our Work Millions of girls drop out of school every year. Since 2014, we've been on a mission to change that, one scholarship at a time. Through funding, mentorship, and support, we want to give girls the tools they need to achieve their dreams. With your support, we're making progress towards that every day. Take Action Today Where we operate We currently focus our efforts across three cities in India: Delhi, Jammu , and Chandigarh . To date, we have supported girls from 33 different schools. We're on a mission to continue to grow our impact. Jammu 106 scholars | 16 schools | 3 coordinators Our original location, where we work 100% with public schools and mostly in rural areas. Includes 12 girls currently in college/university. Delhi 227 scholars | 16 schools | 4 coordinators Launched in 2022 and growing rapidly, our Delhi team has led the way in expanding our scholarship offering through computer classes and guidance. Chandigarh 19 scholars | 1 school | 1 coordinator A unique partnership through the Rotary Club allows us to sponsor low-income girls to attend one of the top high schools in India. 389 Years of education funded Our Impact to Date 33 Schools where we offer scholarships 9 Local changemakers in our team $877 Average Annual Family Income 12% $0 Income Households 4.4 Average Household Size 32% 0-1 Parents Scholar Backgrounds (2022 batch) A holistic approach to education Funding tailored to individuals Flexible funding We fund the essentials and provide financial incentives to stay in school Guidance We track academic progress and offer career guidance sessions Family support We work with families to ensure girls have the support structure they need Summer activities We help girls enroll in activities to help build skills outside of the classroom Computer skills We partially pay for or organize courses for critical computer skills Life skills We help girls set up bank accounts and work with them on health issues Why scholarships? A valid question, and one we've thought about quite a lot. Almost all of the reasons that girls drop out of school are connected to one thing: lack of financial support. A scholarship solves that and much more, allowing us to provide girls with the support network and skills they need to thrive. *Significant differences by location; Jammu school fees ~$70/year while Delhi and Chandigarh no school fees, meaning higher flexible component Committed to impact We're constantly evaluating results and learning from our experiences. Our goal is simple: Maximizing Impact. Read Our Impact Report How we select scholars We use a holistic evaluation method to identify girls who show high potential but face difficult life circumstances. The question we ask is simple: would funding fundamentally change the equation for each of our potential scholars. 01 Identification Our operations team visits schools, meets with families, and obtains recommendations from teachers and principals. 02 Evaluation We use a quantitative model to help make decisions, but we also review every application we receive. 03 Selection We nominate a committe of at least 3 team members that work through multiple rounds to get to a final decision. Stories from our scholars The girls we support are some of the most inspiring individuals we have met. Their stories, ambitions, and perseverance motivate us every day. Vanshika Mooten, Grade 11 “I want to be an automobile engineer after I graduate. But I need to pass the engineering exam first, which is very difficult. I also love Indian literature!” Suneha Devi, College “I love singing and listening to music in my free time. I love all types of songs but one singer I know is Justin Bieber. His music is very nice to listen to.” Sunali Sharma, College “I have all kinds of hobbies. I love reading, solving puzzles, and solving difficult mathematics questions. In general, I really like challenging myself.” Our impact so far We have gone from 7 to 352 scholarships in only five years, and our ambition continues to grow. We're constantly looking for ways to improve our scholarship offering, from private tutoring to mentorship to computer skills courses and mental health. Let's build this next chapter together.
